Take Thyme to Enjoy the Blooms!

Lime Thyme
Red Flowered Thyme
Lemon Thyme
Rose Scented Thyme
One of my favorite herbs other than lemon verbena is thyme.  They are very enjoyable in the heat and humidity of summer when they are in bloom.  Typically you should be harvesting your thyme before it flowers, but I don't always get that done.  So let's just sit back and enjoy the blooms and watch the bees go from flower to flower.

We got enough rain last night for a month about three inches!  We are due to get some more tonight.  We have been so dry so the rain has just soaked in.  Of course, The Herbal Husband spent two hours watering before the storms hit!  He keeps saying if I don't water, it doesn't rain!  Well, wait a bit longer!  Still hot and humid here.  Hope you are having a great day.  Talk to you later.

  1. Rose scented thyme - have never seen that in our neck of the woods - sounds delightful! Your psting on thyme is very "timely" - pardon the bad pun! But wondering what is going on with mine - the thyme that wintered over looks nice and green. The 3 new plants purchased at my local greenhouse look kind of sad after being in the ground for a month. Kind of yellow and little growth. This year I added a natural wood mulch and wondering if the herbs don't like it. Have pushed the wood chips away from the plants for now (and bought 2 more!) My sage transplants also looked similar though have perked up lately. Warm and humid here and thunder to the west...

  2. The flowers are so tiny and dainty! I had a good crop of lavender this year.

  3. Hi TO, I haven't smelled it lately so I'll let you. I have had a similar stories with some of my herbs this year. A fairly new lavender turned completely yellow. We dug it up and put grit in the bottom of the hole and replanted it and it is producing new leaves. I think it may be my soil is depleted. This garden is in its 8th year and I think I need to get compost, manure and a soil test to see what's going on. I think you are sending more rain. We needed the first round not this that's coming though. xo

Hi Peggy, I didn't have such a good crop of lavender this year. My plants are either old and not producing or new and not producing! Take your pick! The thyme flowers are really tiny, but very flavorful. xo

    Thanks for stopping by ladies.

  4. I was out in the garden last evening enjoying the thyme blossoms and noting the low numbers of bees in them this year :( Usually they are full of bees but I could only count around a dozen . I need to try to convince my subdivision trustees that how important it REALLY is to let me set up a bee hive!

  5. I think the lack of bees isn't just a problem in your area, Carol. Although I took some pictures of my borage in bloom and it was covered with bees. I'll show you in the next post. xo
