The 'Provence' lavenders survived the February snow. They are on either side of St. Fiacre. I planted a couple of
Scabiosa 'Butterfly Blue' and a Dianthus called 'Jan Louise'. Hopefully, they will survive the 30's over the weekend. Cold weather is not done with us yet! Hope you had a great day wherever you may be. Talk to you later!
Alas my lavender did not fare so well this winter. I'll have to replace at least 5 plants and maybe 7. Maybe I'll move the whole bed while I'm at it.
ReplyDeleteYes, lavenders took a hit but not as big I thought they might. Lavenders are very finicky. They need very sharp drainage. Hope you get your lavender bed sited well, Carol. Thanks for stopping by!

Scabiosa are an evergreen and great bloomer all winter long here. I bet they will be just fine. They do not care for our summers so much.

ReplyDelete'Provence' lavenders aren't always hardy for us, dear Sharon. I lost an entire bed of them one year! It was tragic. These are the first two I have purchased in a long time and they were flattened by the snow. Hopefully, they will come back. Soon we will be meeting! Can't wait. Nancy

Nancy, do you remember my post from last fall about my lavender plants that I used to make little packets to throw at my daughter's wedding? Remember it made me so allergic to work with bulk lavender? Well, those bushes are like the army that grew stronger. I have no idea why they love where they are so much. We used to have this monster cedar tree that we chopped down. The soil was just awful and only lavender, Russian sage, and chrysanthemums (although not healthy) would grow under it. I'm sure the soil is still somewhat polluted with the muck (tar and acid) but my lavenders are in heaven. No weddings on the horizon this year-so, lots of lavender. Anyone want any?
