Herb Channeler, Part Five and Cheep Rooms on Thursdays!

A lot of them!  This is a dual post.  One of my favorite herb shops in Pennsylvania is The Rosemary House!  This is a building covered with birdhouses in the back of their herb garden.  I know you have heard of The Rosemary House because I'm always talking about one of my favorite herbal authors and founder of The Rosemary House, Bertha Reppert.  Now it is owned and operated by Susanna Reppert-Brill and her husband, David.  They have a lot of holiday events coming along with Nancy Reppert's, Sweet Remembrances Tearoom.  So check out their events schedules.  They have lots of fun events during the holidays for the whole family!  The Herbal Husband and I are going to be stopping by in the next couple weeks.  Can't wait!  Only getting colder here and very windy.  Just out walking and was almost blown over a couple of times!  Hope you are having a great day wherever you may be!  Talk to you later!

Cheep Rooms on Thursdays!

Found this cheep room in a mighty English oak tree on the property where we stayed outside Bristol, England.  This tree was as enormous as the yew tree was in my previous post!  Raining outside FINALLY!  We really need the rain.  May get an inch.  Keeping fingers crossed.  Got to run.  Going to see George Clooney in The American.  The movie was very good.  Beautiful views of Italy and George.  Not a romantic comedy, but even a suspenseful movie with George is great!  There is romance, but not a lot of laughing.  The Herbal Husband thought that George wasn't the right fit, but I enjoyed him!  Talk to you later.

OK, OK I know these really aren't real Cheep Rooms, but it's close.  My best friend's daughter colored this for me for my birthday a couple of years ago or may be it was last year.  The mind is going.  Hope you had a great day!  Talk to you later.

Not Quite a Cheep Room!

OK, it's a bath for the birds.  When we first moved to this house, we were buying those ceramic two-piece birdbaths.  They didn't last long with the crows around!  It became a game with them and it took us a few breaking to finally decide to get this one.  It takes the two of us to move the top in the fall.  We just turn it over so it does crack!

The herbs thriving around it are basil mint that I got out in sunny California a number of years ago.  It is more in the shade than it would like so it moves to the edges and into the sun.  The other herb is sweet woodruff.  It gets a little ratty looking this time of year and it is hotter this season.  It is still looking pretty good in the shade.

So I'm going out to weed before it really gets too hot!  Going into the 90's later today!  Far cry from last year's Seattle summer!  Hope you have a great day!  Tomorrow is the last day to enter my 600th post contest.  Just comment for those buttons!  Talk to you later!

Cheep Rooms on Thursdays!

TG, here is a closer look at the birdhouse.  It was a really beautiful little perennial garden at the Green Tree Municipal Complex with a birdhouse and a butterfly box.  Very hot day, but it looks very cool!  Just had to clarify for those of you thinking it was our garden.  It is not!  I also have no idea how to link this picture on Cheep Rooms!  Just when you get used to something it gets changed!  I feel so stupid!  Well, I will just participate from afar!

Cheep Rooms on Thursdays!

I have a small collection of small log cabins and here is another that is also a cheep room.  I'm going to have to scout out new options for the coming weeks!  I have run out of indoor Cheep Rooms!  Hope you are staying cool wherever you may be!

Cheep Rooms on Thursdays! (UPDATED)

Under the grapevine and attached to the arbor, The Herbal Husband placed a couple of bird boxes that were meant for bluebirds.  Alas, no bluebirds and almost no birds.  The squirrels gnawed the holes larger and no birds were taking up residence.  Then The Herbal Husband came up with a metal fitting that was perfect to fit over the larger hole and allow the birds to use the boxes once again!  I say genius!  Mostly sparrows use these boxes, but I have seen the chickadees think about it.  So join us on Thursdays with your own Cheep Rooms!  This is an update for Messy Missy!  Here is a closeup, Missy.  The Herbal Husband thinks it's in the bath section of Home Depot to hold a shower curtain rod?  He isn't really sure.  You know can't remember what happened in the last 15 minutes?  I think if you take this photo with you, an Home Depot employee will be able to help!  I hope!

A Natural Cheep Room on Thursday!

OK, it is a little big for a typical birdhouse, but if you had been here this morning, the babies were real chirping for their food.  The ivy and sparrows are a perfect fit.  They are very happy here and have had many baby birds in it. It is amazing to see the babies in the feeding box learning to eat food.  They are fluffy and funny!  We are getting hit by rainstorm after rainstorm.  Hopefully, it will end soon.  Hope you are having a great day wherever you may be.  Talk to you later.

It's still Thursday, right?  Well, better late than never.  I've been off track for a couple of weeks.  Here is the my cheep room for this week.  As you can see, it's an indoor one.  It says, "Welcome to My Humble Aboot".

This is a pretty mundane birdhouse in our yard.  It is supposed to be a wren house, but everything but a wren has lived in it!  Last renters were yellowjackets!  It was a surprise when you were trying to work weeding or planting in that part of the yard!  Keep away from the front because they were very protective of their space!  Always an adventure!  Hope you will click the photo along the right side of this post to participate in this weekly event inspired by Tufa Girl and her blog, Texas Tufa.  Join in the fun!  Really late blogging today because I was at a Penn State IPM Seminar all day.  Loads of information and a great lunch  makes for a great day.  Talk to you later!

Cheep Rooms on Thursday and Other Stories!

My Friend, Tufa Girl, encouraged me to get out and about and find a Cheep Room in the neighborhood.  Well, this first one is in the yard of a neighbor who was inspired to garden because of our garden!  When she told me that, it gave me goosebumps!  Of course, as I was doing my exercise, at various times, there were sparrows perched on the roof looking like they were using the Cheep Room!  Hope you will be inspired to join us in the search for Cheep Rooms.  Just go to Tufa Girl's subblog, Cheep Rooms and check it out.

OK, I'm getting old quickly.  The title of this post is Cheep Rooms AND OTHER STORIES!  So here are the other stories.  I had lunch today with my dear friend, Carol.  I worked with her at the law firm for almost 17 years and I have known her for 35 years!  Today is her dear dog's birthday.  So Happy Birthday, Bud!  He knows who is the boss in the family!  Here is a photo of Bud from my last visit.



My latest blog post is at The Herb Companion Magazine.  I have been struggling to cook for myself since The Herbal Husband escaped the snow.  I do have some help from historic sources and I have been experimenting with recipes.  Sooo,  please let me know what your favorite comfort food you cook, bake or make when you are by yourself!

Cheep Rooms on Thursday, But It's Friday?

Well better late than never!  This computer stuff never gets easier for me, but thanks to my friend, Tufa Girl, I will be dragged into the new age of computers!  I never knew what an meme is.  An meme is a phrase used to describe a catchphrase or concept that spreads quickly from person to person via the Internet.  Now you know too!  You need to post a post on your blog and connect it to Tufa Girl's blog and you will be off and running.  Well, Tufa Girl always looking for fun, thought that finding birdhouses outside or inside may cheer us all up.  Check out her blog, Texas Tufa for all of the details.  There aren't many rules and if there are rules, hopefully, they can be broken once in a while.  I already have broken the Thursday rule.  It's Friday!
